At this informational session, League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Tulsa will share its position on criminal justice reform in Oklahoma after the completion of a two-year study that was approved by league members this summer. After sharing the position, a panel will speak on the current state of criminal justice in our state and city, plus reflect on the League’s findings and what changes need to be made.
The “Youth, Adjudication, and Mental Health” Panel Discussion aims to address the intersection of mental health issues and the legal system of young adults. The League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Tulsa recognizes the unique challenges faced by youth involved in legal proceedings and strives to promote their mental well-being, rehabilitative outcomes, and successful reintegration into society.
Please join us for an hour-long informative discussion that will explore Oklahoma’s Citizen Initiative Petition process and potential changes to the process.
Panelists are Oklahoma Representative Amanda Swope, Cole Allen (Oklahoma Policy Institute), and Andy Moore (Let’s Fix This). Panel moderator will be David Blatt, PhD, a professor at OU-Tulsa.
Join us Sept. 20 at 6pm at 36°N (36 E Cameron St) to hear community leaders discuss what civil discourse looks like in today’s polarized society, the spread of disinformation, and a quick lesson on media literacy. Panelists include Rep. Regina Goodwin, Susan Savage, Rodger Randle, Jayme Fowler, and Judith Barba Perez.
The Program Committee will be working on an update to the current LWVMT position on Public Trusts and is calling for interested parties to participate in this restudy.
