LWVOK Study on Criminal Justice Reform
Before the League of Women Voters can take action on an issue, they must have a position addressing that particular issue. That position is established through an in-depth study, followed by consensus on the issue. Once a position is taken, only then can the League advocate on that issue. The current list of positions that the Oklahoma League has can be found here.
This past year, the Oklahoma League, along with all the local Oklahoma Leagues, have studied Criminal Justice Reform with the goal of developing a position on this topic, which can then be used as an advocacy position.
All LWVMT members are invited to join the Tulsa consensus meeting, which will be held on Sat., Jan. 28, 9 a.m. to noon at the YWCA at 1910 S Lewis Ave. If you prefer to attend this meeting online, please email [email protected] to receive the log-in information.
The draft position statements, study materials, and a copy of the consensus questions we’ll be reviewing are linked below. These statements will be discussed to determine whether LWVMT agrees, disagrees, or has recommended edits to the position statements.
Please contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions.
Anyone is welcome to come share their voice, but please note that only current members will be allowed to vote on the final language of the consensus.
