The time has come for local leagues to develop responses to the consensus questions related to the LWVOK’s study updating our current positions on education.
This process requires a group to find solutions that everyone actively supports, or at least can live with. The consensus questions can be found below for review. During the meeting, short presentations will be made on each question topic, then we will discuss each question to come to a consensus response that will be submitted to the Oklahoma League. The discussion should be lively — come be a part of it!
Anyone is welcome to come share their voice (bring a friend!), but please note that only current members will be allowed to vote on the final language of the consensus.
Date: Saturday, January 26
Time: 9:00am – 1:00pm
Location: Community Room, YWCA (1910 S Lewis Ave)
The LWVMT Consensus Meeting will begin at 9:00am and is slated to run through until 1:00pm; however, should the league reach full consensus prior to that time, we will convene early. Bagels and coffee will be available for breakfast and a sack lunch can be ordered below.
Per the LWVOK:
The scope of the 2017-2019 restudy of the League of Women Voters of Oklahoma position on education will focus on education in the 21st Century. It will begin with a review of the current education-related positions in order to determine what general principles the LWVOK can still affirm. The study will include alternate delivery methods and their impact as well as research into how other states fund common, higher and technical education and why proper funding is crucial.
For those interested, the LWVOK has provided the following documents. We ask all members to review the study materials as well as the consensus questions so that discussion can take place in quick but informative fashion. (The sooner consensus is reached, the earlier you’re out to further enjoy your Saturday afternoon!!)
