Topic: Charter Schools
LWVTulsa is finalizing our part in the LWVOK’s Education Restudy with a presentation and discussion about charter schools. With the 2019 state legislature planning to make reforms in education, this is a timely restudy. Join us to learn about the intent of charter policies and what is occurring in the practical implementation in our state.  We will leave being better prepared for the coming Tulsa consensus meeting.

Presenter:  Melissa Abdo
Melissa has been involved with Oklahoma education policy both professionally and in volunteer capacities for the past decade. As a volunteer Melissa has been a coordinator with the Parent Legislative Action Committee (PLAC) for nine years and was elected to serve on the Board of Education for Jenks Public Schools in February of 2013. Professionally Melissa works at the True Blue Neighbors Center for Community and Civic Engagement, at the University of Tulsa. Her commitment to making public education better for all Oklahoma students led her to become a 2014 candidate for the Oklahoma House of Representatives. Melissa remains active in several voter and civic engagement initiatives in the community.
