Action needed today!
Moving swiftly to negate Monday’s Oklahoma Supreme Court ruling, Oklahoma lawmakers expect to push legislation through the House of Representatives that would reinstate the notarization requirement. SB 1779 bill would largely overturn the Supreme Court’s decision on absentee ballot notarization.
SB 1779 was amended at the last minute to require absentee ballots to be notarized, despite a mechanism already in the state statute that allows signatures (with a penalty for perjury). There are some exceptions during the time of COVID-19, but they are insufficient and can be confusing to voters.
We need to keep the court’s decision in place to reduce barriers to voting, especially during this time of COVID-19. If you agree, please contact your representative today!
This bill goes up for a vote today at 1:30 p.m.
