League Steps Up Voter Registration Efforts, Wins LWVUS Grant

Heather News

The upcoming elections have prompted a flurry of requests help with voter registration events.  Luckily, the Tulsa League was awarded an $800 pass-through grant early in August by the LWVUS Education Fund to pursue at least five voter registration events focused on registering first-time voters at community colleges and alternative/vocational schools in underrepresented communities or at naturalization ceremonies. This is a natural fit especially since we have a long history of registering new citizens at naturalization ceremonies. Once we received notice of the grant award, the committee, chaired by Lynn Rivers, got to work preparing for the events which will be held between September 9, 2012 and October 12, 2012.

Additional events are being discussed with five other schools/agencies. Fulfilling this high demand is one of the core activities of the League of Women Voters and you can be a part of this important work.  If you are interested in volunteering in this increasingly large project, please contact us today.
