Honored to serve. Help Wanted.

Heather News

Thank you for allowing me to serve as your president. I follow a long line of intelligent, talented and committed women and men to this post. I look forward to honoring their service by continuing to fight for what is right and just in public policy while making every effort to ensure voters have the information they need to make informed choices at the polls.

We have a very busy year ahead of us. We need everyone’s help. Please accept this letter as your invitation to get involved in any way you can. Below are just a few of the important upcoming issues that could use your help.

Voter ID

The Voter ID law took effect July 1, and while we will continue to oppose this law on constitutional grounds, we must accept reality and begin educating voters that they will need to bring proper identification to the polls.

City Charter Change

There will be several proposals on the November ballot to change Tulsa’s form of government. The League is opposing all of them.

Municipal Election Voter Guide

Elections will be held for each of the nine city council seats and for the city auditor in November. The League Voter Guide will be an invaluable tool to help Tulsans make their decisions.

State Water Study

The Tulsa League is taking the lead in a two-year  water study  intended to update and expand the current State position to bring it more in line with the scope of the National position. The committee will study water use, protection, management, conservation, ownership and quality across Oklahoma.

It’s going to be a very exciting year! I look forward to working with each and every one of you to further the League’s mission. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with suggestions, concerns and offers to get involved.

In League,

Heather Hope-Hernandez

President, 2011-2013
